IAn eligible project should benefit the local community and members of the public.
For example a Funeral Director may wish to sponsor a school project to plant trees within its grounds. This would be eligible, and an application to us, to pay for the trees would be appropriate. These can be purchased locally and a nearby garden nursery or we have contacts with a number of larger “trade” nurseries.
An application for funds can be made by a participating Funeral Director by simply outlining to us what the project is and the anticipated cost of the trees. A decision will be made based on the following criteria. i) The validity of the project. ii) Its cost and value. iii) Availability of Tree Tribute funds. iv) The amount the Funeral Directors spend with J C Atkinson and Son Ltd
J C Atkinson are members of the Forest Stewardship Council and wherever possible we only use wood which is certified by the FSC. Wood we use which is not certified by the FSC is strictly controlled to ensure it is from a legal sustained source.
With an increasing choice of coffins on the market been made from a diverse range of materials such as cardboard, bamboo and willow people forget the wood we use is 100% natural and has equal and often better ecological benefits than these alternatives.
Tree Tribute is a pro active environmental initiative to promote the positive aspects wood offers to our environment. Our aims are to enhance the benefits of wood as the best and most environmentally sound material for use in making coffins be it for burial or cremation on municipal or privately owned establishments.
The participating Funeral Director can inform a family who have chosen a Solid wood coffin that as a result of this choice a tree will be planted, helping the environment we live in. We also offer template certificates which can be used to aid sales and promotion initiatives.
